Lost VeriCoins

    Hey all, I purchased VeriCoins on Bleutrade a few days ago.

    I downloaded the Verium Vault as I was under the impression that my VeriCoins would be sent to the wallet address in there when I withdrew.

    My VeriCoins are now only in the VeriCoin blockchain explorer rather than the Verium blockchain. I am pretty sure I have done something really stupid now as I am pretty inexperienced with VeriCoins. I simply downloaded Verium because it was on the VeriCoin website.

    Is there anyway of getting these coins back now? Or will I have to repurchase with a VeriWallet. If anyone can give me some advice I would really appreciate it!

    You haven't lost the coins. VeriCoin and Verium ARE two separate entities, but they do share the same address format. All you need to do is export the private key for the address from the Verium wallet and Import it into the VeriCoin wallet.

    Exporting/Importing private keys is very easy to do and can be done from the File menu in each wallet via the Export/Import Private key menu items. Give it a try yourself and if you run into difficulties, post another message here. Note that you may have to restart the VeriCoin wallet after importing the private key in order for the new address to show up in your Receive list.

    Thanks so much for the reply Scott, exporting my Private key now.

    Hey Scott, I have imported my private key, wallet shows my address and I checked the Blockchain for the transaction which comes up. Unfortunately there is still no VRC in my balance at all, I have even rescanned my wallet and still nothing. If you can advise me on what to do that would be great.

    Try the File Menu > Rescan wallet

    Already rescanned, nothing is coming up unfortunately.

    So the correct address shows up in the wallet and the blockchain shows a balance for that same address? A rescan would normal resolve that. It almost sounds like you're not sync'd up or are on a different chain.

    Is the wallet in sync and not displaying (out of date) next to the Balance and Transactions sections? In the bottom status bar, hover your mouse over the little checkmark icon next to In Sync... what block number does it show?

    Hey Scott, yes you are correct. The transaction comes up in the blockchain and the wallet shows the correct address...to confirm this I made sure by copying the recovered wallet address from inside the vault into the blockchain. I have rescanned the blockchain three times now. It doesn't say out of date anywhere, what I have noticed though is that it says 0 connections? Would that be something to do with it?

    The 0 connections is definitely the problem.

    Yea, with 0 connections, it hasn't even started to sync up to the blockchain; the out of sync message may not actually appear until it starts syncing. Since it hasn't synced up yet, it hasn't processed the transaction with your coins, which is why that address shows a 0 balance.

    As for the 0 connections problem, that one is out of my league. :D

    If you select Reload Blockchain from the File menu, your wallet will load in a fairly recent copy of the blockchain, but it will still be out of date and stay that way until you can get some connections. It may show your balance, tho.

    Shutdown the Vericoin wallet.

    Create a Vericoin.conf file.

    Go to notepad and add these lines:

    addnode=162.225.223.66:54971
    addnode=37.35.202.126:58684

    Save this file as vericoin.conf (Save as > all Files >)

    Place this file in the Vericoin %AppData% folder.

    Start the Vericoin Client.

    Uploaded the vericoin.conf file for you just in case.

    http://www103.zippyshare.com/v/0ZeP0AqJ/file.html

    Place this in the Vericoin %AppData% folder and you should be good to go.

    You can find the %AppData% folder here C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\VeriCoin\

    Enable the hidden files options in windows to see it.

    You'll want to remove the # from the front of the lines, else they will be treated as comments.

    Here's a more complete list of current nodes. You can add all of these to your vericon.conf, or just a handful. Once you've started the wallet with that .conf file in place and have verified that it's getting connections, shut it down and remove the lines from the .conf file and restart the wallet; they'll automatically get added to the peers.dat file, so there's no need to keep them in the .conf file.

    Really appreciate it all the help. Everything is working now and have 17 connections, the wallet is now synchronizing with the network. It says there are 33'000 blocks left to download though. Is this normal?

    Thanks again, Scott and Souljah.

    Yes this is normal. After it's done syncing you will see the coins.
